My name is Myriam Doyle and I started Mimitoys in 2004. Mimitoys.ie is a toys online Ireland retailer that sells unique, fun, quality toys for children up to the age of 12/14.

My favourite part of the job is to select toys that are different and will get children and parents to play together and enjoy together. I am not interested in selling toys that carry a brand or character as I think they put a lot of pressure on parents to have to buy these toys. I am not interested either in selling battery-operated toys. This is a personal choice. I like toys that will last, will be enjoyed and played with for years.

The drive behind setting up my business was my interest in children’s educational toys and the desire to be self-employed. That drive is still there after 18 years…

I have 4 children, 2 teenagers and 2 in 3rd level. I am very grateful for the flexibility that self-employment is giving me even if that means sometimes late nights work or weekend work, I am able to spend the time I want with my children.

I have been selling toys online in Ireland for 18 years now. Your order is safely packed and ready to go in one day. I re-use a lot of used boxes, my packaging is not fancy but totally neutral and works very well particularly around Christmas when children start snooping around! We use An-Post who mostly use electric vehicles for delivery to homes.

I have recently joined the Meath Chamber of Commerce. County Meath Chamber of Commerce is the leading business organisation for the promotion and development of economic and commercial activity in County Meath. It is a fantastic resource, even for a small one-woman business!, to get support and training and create connections. I find the monthly networking events a great way to share concerns and ideas with other businesses. I always get some new ideas from listening to participants’ experiences with their business.

I love my job, I love my online toys in Ireland  business: I do the buying, the packing, some web design, and marketing. It is so varied and there is so much to learn all the time…
