Myriam talks with Jill and Elaine, the co-founders of the Carrickmacross Toy Library, which was launched in September 2020.
Carrickmacross Toy Library is a toy lending service for children aged 0-6 where families can borrow sustainably sourced toys. A fantastic initiative on solid grounds! With so many toys ending up in a landfill or broken, trying the toy first is a good way to see what children like to play with and also a way to play with toys that parents or carers may not consider buying otherwise. You will not find a lot of plastic toys or battery-operated toys in their amazing selection!
Carrickmacross Toy Library is a registered charity and sources a lot of toys that have been pre-loved. They also raise funds to purchase additional toys.
NEWS AND UPDATES…MARCH 2023
Since the podcast with Jill and Elaine from Carrickmacross Toy Library, there have been some changes and development.
Carrickmacross Toy Library has moved to bigger premises and is now in Castleblayney Road, Carrickmacross A81 XK30. They have over 90 active members at present, including a small handful of schools and nearly 600 toys in the collection.
In 2022, they facilitated over 1,300 toys and games loans, saving the equivalent of 0.7 tonnes of plastic from landfill. Amazing work, well done! and they are looking to expand the age range from birth to 8 years old…
