Why are Puppets still so popular?

As an online toyshop I have always stocked a range of puppets, mainly storysets like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, a few character puppets, Witch Hand Puppet, Wizzard Hand Puppet and a few Farm Animals Hand Puppets. Over the past few years I have gone from stocking less than 100 different types of puppets to stocking over 500 different ones. Yes they do exist, and there are so many more out there I'd love to stock...
The popularity of puppets has come as a bit of a suprise to me but I think puppets are a timeless form of play that captivate children and also adults. In a time of digital entertainment and high-tech toys, puppets offer so many opportunities of screen-free entertainment.

Puppets encourage imagination and creativity. By definition, children just have fun making up stories with their puppets and creating fantastic scenarios. Puppets provide a great freedom of play and expression.

Puppets, as a form of play, are inviting and inclusive, anyone can join in to the story and add their little bit, that includes parents and the adults who are around...

Sometimes children express feelings, emotions and situations through puppets that they may not have otherwise in a different environment. Puppets offer a safe play environment.

Simpler times...as adults, we look at puppets with a bit of nostalgia, a reminder of simpler times. Grandparents do buy puppets from Mimitoys as gifts. Maybe also to create a connection through play with their grandchildren.

Puppets come in all sizes (finger puppets, hand puppets, long-sleeved pupppets, super large puppets...), in all themes (Irish wildlife, farm animals, jungle animals, fantasy characters, people around us, families...) and all prices, finger puppets start at 5.95 and the large puppets are 106 euro.
There is definitely a puppet for everyone, every taste and every budget.

Puppets are a fantastic learning resource and are very popular with teachers. They can be used to introduce new subjects, languages and skills. As characters they are very approachable and make learning fun and engaging.

Puppets are also very popular with play therapists and the feedback we get from them is amazing. Children tend to trust and engage very well with puppets. It's the friend that helps them explore their emotions and experiences.

Playing with puppets is refreshing, fun and spontaneous. Puppets never break and can be passed on...As a game, it is so easy to set up and as usual, children will always know what to do with their puppets.

Play is the essence.
